Scenic train rides through tea country, hikes in Horton Plains, and safaris in Yala showcase breathtaking landscapes and wildlife. The southern coast offers golden beaches, coral reefs, and water sports, while Colombo adds shopping and nightlife. The adventure ends with cherished memories and renewed energy before departure.
Upon your arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed and assisted by a representative of Silver Tree Travel before being escorted to your vehicle for the transfer to Negombo. After checking in at the hotel, you will have the opportunity to observe the true life of Negombo at its vibrant fish markets, which are especially lively in the early hours of the day when the fresh catch arrives, vendors call out their prices at the top of their voices, and buyers bargain enthusiastically for the best deals.
After an early breakfast, proceed to visit the Pinnawala Elephant Millennium, where you will enjoy an elephant walk experience and take part in bathing these gentle giants. The tour concludes with lunch at the foundation before you continue your journey to Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and relax for the remainder of the day.
In the early morning, visit the iconic rock fortress of Sigiriya, the legendary Sky Citadel known as the “Lion Rock” renowned for its ancient frescoes of the Celestial Maidens. Built in the 5th century by King Kasyapa atop a towering 200-metre granite rock, this remarkable site took seven years to construct and was abandoned after just a decade when the defeated king took his own life. Though the climb is steep, the breathtaking views and historic frescoes make it well worth the effort, especially when visited early in the morning or just before sunset for cooler temperatures and fewer crowds. Continue with a tour of a nearby local village, enjoying leisurely walks through paddy fields and refreshing breezes while gaining insight into traditional village life through interactions with local families. The experience includes a cookery demonstration and a bullock cart ride, followed by a scenic boat ride, ending with an authentic Sri Lankan lunch. Later, explore Minneriya National Park, located between Habarana and Polonnaruwa, an 8,890-hectare reserve of mixed evergreen forest and scrubland. The park’s centrepiece is the ancient Minneriya Tank, built in the 3rd century AD by King Mahasena, offering exceptional opportunities to observe elephants bathing and grazing, along with large flocks of birds such as cormorants and painted storks feeding in the shallow waters.
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed to Kandy, with a stop at a spice plantation in Matale, where a variety of spices, such as cinnamon, pepper, and nutmeg, are grown—spices that made Sri Lanka famous and attracted Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonisers. You may also visit a batik factory to observe the production of this artistic fabric. En route, explore the renowned cave temples of Dambulla, built by King Valagambahu in the 1st century BC as a refuge while fleeing Indian invaders. Perched on a massive granite outcrop more than 160 metres above the surrounding land, the caves are adorned with ancient frescoes depicting religious and secular scenes and house hundreds of Buddha statues, including a 15-metre-long reclining Buddha carved from the rock itself. Upon arrival in Kandy, the old capital of Ceylon and seat of the last Sinhalese kingdom, enjoy the charm of a city centred around an ancient artificial lake, nestled among rolling hills covered with forests and tea plantations. Kandy is home to the country’s most important Buddhist temple and offers stunning city views from several hotels. It is also an excellent place to purchase gemstones such as sapphires, rubies, tourmalines, and spinels, with opportunities to visit workshops and observe the design, cutting, polishing, and setting processes firsthand.
In the late afternoon, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, which has housed one of Buddhism’s most sacred relics—a tooth of Buddha collected from his funeral pyre—since its founding in the 16th century. The relic is carefully preserved within the gold-roofed temple, making it a site of great spiritual significance. At 16:00 hours, attend a cultural dance show to experience traditional Sri Lankan music and dance performances.
After an early breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed to Nuwara Eliya by train. Board the Badulla train for a scenic ride to Nanu Oya station, where your vehicle will be waiting to continue the journey to Nuwara Eliya. En route, visit a local tea plantation and factory to observe the tea-making process. The rest of the day is free to relax and enjoy the serene surroundings of this picturesque hill country town.
After early breakfast at the hotel. Leave for Ella via a scenic route. At Ella, after lunch, visit the 9 Arch Bridge and Little Adams Peak. Check in at the hotel and relax for the rest of the day.
After breakfast at the hotel, check out and proceed to Tissamaharama via Ella. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and continue for an afternoon safari at Yala National Park. Covering 1,570 square kilometres in the south-eastern corner of the island, Yala National Park was established in 1938 and features a diverse range of habitats, including scrub jungle, brackish lagoons, lakes, and rivers. The park is home to around 400 elephants and approximately 40 leopards, as well as wild buffalo, sambhur deer, musk deer, black bears, macaques, jackals, and a wide variety of bird species.
Check out from the hotel and proceed to a western or southern beach resort via Galle Fort. Enjoy the sun and sand and take time to relax, with the option to explore the local area surrounding the resort. The resorts offer a variety of water sports activities, allowing you to choose experiences according to your interests and skill level.
Enjoy the sun, sea, and just relax.
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed to Colombo for a city tour and shopping experience. Spend the rest of the evening relaxing at the hotel, or step out to explore the vibrant nightlife of Colombo.
